CALLS FOR PROPOSALS

For Oxford academics

Funding is available to support scholars in the Humanities Division at Oxford for initiatives (workshops, conferences, seminars) that are relevant and can contribute to the themes of the Uehiro Oxford Institute (UOI)/TORCH Medical Humanities programme on Immunity and the Humanities . Scholars are encouraged submit an application, explaining how the proposed initiative fits the themes of the programme. The proposals can involve scholars from other divisions and from other universities, as long as the main applicant is based in the Humanities Division at Oxford or works in adjacent disciplines (Anthropology and Social Sciences). The application should be submitted using this brief application form. Proposals that can demonstrate how the initiative can contribute to developing humanities-based interdisciplinary methodologies around public health will be given priority.

Funding is available for up to 4 academic event years, and up to £1000 per event. Applicants could also propose a series of smaller events, as long as the total budget does not exceed £1000 for a single application.  Support in kind may be available in the form of free venue space, although this is subject to availability. All funds should be spent by within one year of an award being confirmed.  Eligible costs could include travel and subsistence expenses, refreshments, other event and publicity costs etc.  Generally we will not cover the costs of evening dinners/receptions, speaker fees/honoraria (unless good reason is provided as to why this is necessary), academic salaries or teaching buyout, Zoom licences or other online platforms, external websites.  If you have any queries about what to include in your budget, please contact medhum@torch.ox.ac.uk or torch@humanities.ox.ac.uk.

UOI and Medical Humanities contribution should be acknowledged in the event material and any resulting output, as a condition of funding.

Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria

  1. Potential for developing interdisciplinary, humanities-based methodologies, ideally of relevance to ethics work
  2. Potential for developing further projects
  3. Diversity of disciplines represented

Deadline: Friday Week 5 each term. Please submit your application to both medhum@torch.ox.ac.uk and torch@humanities.ox.ac.uk

Special Call for DPhil Students and Early Career Researchers

Separate funding is available to ECRs and DPhil students within the Humanities to run research, networking events, and other projects within the thematic area of the Uehiro Oxford Institute (UOI)/TORCH Medical Humanities programme on Immunity and the Humanities. The format of the application and the conditions for the funding are the same as those for the call above, but less emphasis will be put on the development of interdisciplinary methodologies. Two ECR events will be supported every year, with up to £300 per event.

Deadlines: Friday Week 5 in MT and in HT. Please submit your application to both medhum@torch.ox.ac.uk and torch@humanities.ox.ac.uk.
