The event is free and everyone is welcome, but please note that the number of spaces available is limited, so do book in advance.

This seminar is one of a new six-part event series taking place this autumn, hosted by Oxford University's Community History Hub. The events will showcase a range of innovative local historical projects run by, or in partnership with, community historians. Join us to learn about the latest new research being conducted on Oxfordshire's diverse histories, as well as gaining new skills that could help you shape your own project ideas.

On 24 October 2025, come and engage with Oxford academics researching about the evolution of healthcare across the county, and working at the interface of policy-making and community engagement.

  • Dr Sally Frampton has been working with a range of community mental health organisations (including Restore, Oxfordshire Recovery College, and My Life, My Choice) to develop a historical overview of the changing nature of mental health treatment across the county. Her team has developed a number of free resources based on their research, including an oral history archive and teaching resources for schools, which you can find online via the Oxford Health Histories website.
  • Prof Erica Charters is a historian of medicine, war and empire, as well as directing the Medical Humanities network at the Oxford Research for the Humanities (TORCH). She and her team of postdoctoral researchers have recently been working with Oxfordshire County Council to use humanities-based approaches to evaluating local community engagement with the council's health initiatives.

If you have any questions about the event, you are welcome to contact Dr Priya Atwal (Community History Fellow) via email at priya.atwal@history.ox.ac.uk.
